The Story of Erin and Elise N.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 14, 2005, a hotline call was received from Rebecca Rossow, an attorney with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc. She advised Ed Wunsch that a case had been presented to her that needed the special attention of Parental Abduction Child Recovery Team (PACRT). Ms. Rossow briefly explained that Kim N. had been in court earlier today and received an Order for Protection giving her temporary physical and legal custody of her two children, Erin (7 years old) and Elise (5 years old). Kim’s estranged husband, Robb N. had the children and could not be found. Ms. Rossow forwarded a copy of the Order for Protection to Ed. Ms. Rossow was advised to have Kim contact Ed Wunsch.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., Kim contacted Ed. While Ed was taking preliminary information on the case, Kim received a call from Robb. Kim returned to the phone and stated that Robb would not let Kim speak with the children and told her he was not going to return the children.

Ed continued speaking with Kim and obtained additional preliminary information regarding the case. Kim received another phone call. This caller told Kim that Robb and the children had been seen at a relative’s home in Woodbury, MN. Kim had earlier advised Ed that she had left a copy of the Order for Protection with the Woodbury Police Department.

Ed advised Kim to immediately contact the Woodbury Police Department and relay this information to them. Ed gathered his notes, and faxed copy of the Order for Protection and responded to Woodbury to assist, if necessary.

While en route to Woodbury, Ed consulted with Attorney Robin Dietz-Mayfield, who approved PACRT’s involvement in the case. Ed also received a call from Kim that Woodbury Police Department had misplaced the Order for Protection and was unable to serve Robb, or remove the children, but were going to respond to the home to attempt to work things out. Fearing a possible refusal to cooperate from Robb, Ed immediately contacted the Woodbury Police Department and requested them to meet with him prior to going to the home where Robb was seen.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m., Ed met with Officers Beane and Cline of the Woodbury Police Department and presented a copy of the Order for Protection and Child Pick-up Order.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., two very excited little girls were re-united with their mother.
